82 days of building later, I'm proud to present to you my new personal domino record with 32,000 dominoes! It also includes my best spiral yet that falls in an incredibly satisfying way. Please share this video if you enjoyed! It really would mean a lot to me after nearly 3 months of work :) It was a joy creating such a big passion project. I tried to make the most interesting designs I could, and sort of created a fire vs. ice color scheme within it. This was really quite a falldown! Domino Records was founded in 1993, by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice, the label's first release was the Sebadoh EP Rocking the Forest, licensed from Sub Pop records for release in the UK. Many of the early releases were by American artists who in the USA were signed to Drag City (Smog, Will Oldham, Royal Trux), a relationship which continues to this day. Success was not immediate, as labels such as Domino, who were releasing more established American rock and unusual British music, were marginalised during the Britpop era, but a steady stream of new signings gave the label increasing credibility. Recent high-profile releases from Anna Calvi, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, and The Kills have only acted as a catalyst to this, and Domino is now one of the longest running and most successful independent record labels in the UK. 2003 was the label's 10th anniversary. There were a number of new releases, as well as a compilation album and a series of gigs in London under the 'Worlds of Possibility' banner, to celebrate the label's first decade in October of that year. Domino celebrated their first UK #1 album in October 2005 with Franz Ferdinand's You Could Have It So Much Better, and their first UK #1 single with Arctic Monkeys' "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" later that same month. As well as new music, Domino have released produced compilations by British post-punk bands such as Orange Juice, Josef K, Fire Engines and Young Marble Giants. Fats Domino performing "Ain't That A Shame", released originally in March, 1955. It reached #1 on the US Billboard R&B Charts and #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Imperial Records had the engineers compress Fats' vocals and speed up the song a bit to make the song sound less bluesy and give it more mainstream appeal, making it more difficult for other artists to cover the song. This was the first song to crossover from the R&B charts to the mostly white pop charts of the day. Like several other songs previously heard exclusively in black bars or nightclubs, it was covered by the crooning Pat Boone. Concerned about how educated, upper-class whites would respond to the title, he originally wanted it changed to "Isn't That a Shame," but the producers realized the original title would sell better and kept it. This was a favorite songwriting trick of Domino's, as he looked for a good, simple section to start a song. Even though songs like this one were often attached to melancholy lyrics, it was the sound that Domino felt was important - if he could make it sound happy, it would evoke pleasant memories. "Ain't That A Shame" is a heartache song about a breakup that was the other partner's fault. Domino wrote it with Dave Bartholomew, who worked on most of Domino's hits. Fats Domino was an American pianist and singer-songwriter, known for his pioneering work in the R&B and rock and roll genres. He was one of the first African-American artists to gain popularity with white audiences and helped pave the way for future black musicians. His music was heavily influenced by the New Orleans sound and he was one of the key figures in the city's music scene in the 1950s and 60s. A new world record for the number of dominoes toppled in one go was set in the Netherlands on Friday night, when according to event organisers, 4,345,027 dominoes fell during a two-hour TV show. (Nov. 15)
In honour of World Book Day, we present the spectacular record attempt for most books toppled in a domino fashion. Subscribe for more: 🤍 The most books toppled in a domino fashion is 5,318 and was achieved by United Biscuits (UK) in Old Windsor, Berkshire, UK, on 28 January 2015. The toppling of the books lasted 2 min 27 sec. The books used for the record attempt were the Guinness World Records 2015 edition books. With a tough target to beat of 4,988 books toppled - a record set in March last year in Poland - the attempt would require the United Biscuits UK staff to really pull together and work as a team in order for them to take the title. The end result was that United Biscuits did achieve the record on their first attempt with 5,318 successfully toppled books – an incredible achievement considering the conference delegates had no prior practise along with the limited amount of time they had to set up the books. This is the Guinness World Record - 3D Pyramid Largest Domino setup! I spent over 8 months and 200 hours planning and making it happen.
