Мэт отправился в Вену, чтобы ознакомиться с основным соперником BMW 5 Series от Mercedes и выяснить, насколько E-Class изменился по сравнению с предшественником. Начнём с дизайна: можно смело сказать, что новинка весьма похожа на предыдущее поколение. Зад довольно красивый, с хромированной полосой по всей ширине и хитрыми стоп-сигналами в стиле характерной трёхлучевой звезды. В целом очень красиво, за исключением беспардонно фейковых выхлопов! Колёсные диски у E-Class от 17 до 21 дюйма; также он щеголяет стильными выдвижными дверными ручками. Спереди у E-Class обновлённый дизайн решётки, а в остальном - он весьма похож на предшественника. В салоне несколько больше изменений: чего стоит огромный двойной экран системы super screen, простирающийся по всей передней панели! Всего в салоне 3 экрана: цифровая приборная панель, отдельный экран для пассажира и информационно-развлекательная система по центру. Для скачивания доступны и сторонние приложения, такие как TikTok и Zoom, а приборка может выводить объёмное изображение! В основном, отделка салона весьма качественная, и лишь местами огорчает грубый пластик. Сиденья очень комфортные, а пассажирам позади будет вполне просторно. На выбор доступны разные варианты двигателей. Начальная модель E200 с бензиновым либо дизельным ДВС (2 литра и турбонаддув) мощностью около 200 л.с. Далее E450, оснащённый 3-литровой турбированной рядной шестёркой мощностью 380 л.с. Доступны и подключаемые гибриды, заряженная версия - E400e, оснащённая 2-литровым турбированным ДВС и вспомогательным электромотором с совокупной отдачей 380 л.с. Все версии оснащены 9-ступенчатой АКПП, а у подключаемых гибридов батареи 20 кВт-часов, что обеспечит дальность хода чуть больше 110 км. Прежде, в этом смысле работали в основном над купе семейств SL, а седаны славились солидностью и даже некой тяжеловесностью. Проектируя Mercedes W 124, с сопротивлением воздуха боролись упорно, тщательно и по всем фронтам. Именно для улучшения аэродинамики сделали пластиковые накладки на боковины кузова, которые после рестайлинга 1989 года получили вставки из полированной нержавейки. В том числе и во имя борьбы с воздухом, поставили и большую защиту моторного отсека. Да, и единственная щетка стеклоочистителя – шедевр механики тоже служит для снижения сопротивления воздуха на высоких скоростях. На Мерседесах семейства W124 ставили множество бензиновых и дизельных двигателей. Вплоть до культового 5-литрового 326-сильного. Под капотом этого Мерседеса двигатель семейства М102 объемом 2,3 л, мощностью 136 л.с. или 132 л.с. при 5100 об/мин с нейтрализатором. Момент - 205 Н.м при 3500 об/мин. Впрыск КЕ-Jetronic - из тех, которому что называется, сноса нет. Салон базового Мерседеса – царство простоты и функциональности. Никакой кожи, стеклоподъемники и регулировка сидений – вручную. Даже левое зеркало - с ручной регулировкой, лишь правое – с электрической. Кондиционера здесь тоже нет. Этот дорогой прибор в Европе, тем более в Германии в те годы не считали обязательным. Ставили, в основном, на машины для американского рынка. Для Европы важнее были обогреваемые зеркала. Lows More of a grand tourer than a sports car, the tiny rear seat is essentially unusable, princely price tag. Verdict It looks great and goes like hell, but the SL-class lacks the focus of established sports car rivals. Overview It might look the part of a racy sports car, but the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL-class is really more of a grand touring car with a fashion-forward wardrobe. Handling is sharp enough to be entertaining, but the SL’s party piece is its thundering V-8 powertrain. However, before that storm rolls in, Mercedes offers a rear-wheel-drive SL43 that's powered by a 375-hp turbocharged four-cylinder. Moving up to the SL55 and SL63 models unlocks all-wheel drive and a meaningful power increase from a twin-turbo V-8 engine. Those SLs are offered in two strengths, the 469 horsepower SL55 and the 577 horsepower SL63. The SL’s cabin has enough space for two adults and includes plenty of luxury and tech features, including a cool 11.9-inch infotainment display that can adjust its position to better meet the driver’s line of sight. Although Mercedes-AMG refers to the SL as a roadster, it does have two small rear seats. But the back seat is better used as a place for your tote bag or your shopping, as legroom is severely limited; with the convertible top in place, so is headroom. What's New for 2023? For its second model year, the new generation SL-class roadster gains a new gray fabric roof option as well as available two-tone white and black leather upholstery. Mercedes has also added an SL43 model to serve as the entry-level SL-class. The SL43 has 375 horsepower, the lowest of the SL range, but that's accommodated by a dramatic drop in starting price. Otherwise, the SL55 and SL63 roll into 2023 without any significant changes. Pricing and Which One to Buy SL43: $111,050 SL55: $140,000 (est) SL63: $180,000 (est) A host of luxury features come standard on all SL models, including massaging seats, a head-up display, and a Burmester stereo system. We'd go with the more expensive SL63 to unlock the twin-turbo V-8's maximum power figure. Both the SL55 and SL63 are offered in either Touring or Performance specifications, with the latter coming with a front axle lift feature (to help it clear speed bumps) and darkened exterior trim. Engine, Transmission, and Performance With the exception of the entry-level SL43, which comes with a 375-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, the SL models are powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 borrowed from the GT sports car. In the SL55 the engine makes a stout 469 horsepower but upgrading to the SL63 boosts that figure to a thundering 577 ponies. A nine-speed automatic is the only transmission, and an all-wheel-drive system and four-wheel steering are standard on SL55 and SL63, while the SL43 is rear-wheel drive only. The top powertrains allow the revived SL-class to take on convertible versions of the BMW 8-series and the Lexus LC—both of which are offered with powerful V-8 engines—as well as more sporting rivals, such as the Porsche 911. During our initial test drive, we found the SL to be a touch off from its new, sportier mission. The car offers several adjustable drive modes, which makes it hard to dial in just the right amount of agility and comfort, giving the impression that it's not quite focused enough on one or the other. Acceleration is prompt, especially with the more powerful version of the V-8 on board, and the SL63 hit 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds in our testing. We haven't tested the entry-level SL43 this year, but Mercedes says it's good for about 4.8 seconds to 60 mph with a top speed of 170 mph. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The SL-class remains solely a two-door convertible. But rather than last generation's complicated folding hardtop, a fabric roof has been used on the new model to save weight and maximize cargo space. Still, don't expect an expansive trunk. A pair of small rear seats provide a place to park an occasional passenger, but that area is better suited to cargo than people. The interior is plenty luxurious and Mercedes's novel Airscarf feature, which gently blows warm air on the driver and front passenger's neck during cold weather drives, is standard. Overview For 2023, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-class compact four-door is the entry point for the company's sedan lineup, and it's equipped in a way that does justice to the three-pointed star on its grille. While it shares its platform with the high-strung Mercedes-AMG CLA models, it trades their high Scoville Heat Units rating for a less peppery flavor: it's a laid back, low-stress daily commuter with style and appointments appropriate to a Mercedes. The CLA-Class goes unchanged for the 2023 model year. Pricing and Which One to Buy CLA250: $40,500 CLA250 4Matic: $42,400 The CLA250 comes with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is standard on the CLA250 4Matic. The latter trim is a great choice for those who travel on wet, slippery roads, but we think everyone else will be happy with the CLA250. That car rides on 18-inch wheels and comes with exterior features such as automatic LED headlights, rear fog lamps, a sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and heated power-adjustable sideview mirrors with integrated turn signals. The list of standard amenities within the cabin includes 12-way power-adjustable front seats, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, a folding rear bench seat with a 60/40 split, keyless entry and push-button ignition, and navigation. When it comes to driver-assistance features, automated emergency braking is standard. Engine, Transmission, and Performance All Mercedes-Benz CLA-class sedans are motivated by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Gears are shifted by a seven-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. At our test track, an all-wheel drive CLA250 4Matic model sprinted to 60 mph in a sprightly 5.6 seconds but felt less energetic around town than that number suggests. The CLA-class offers handling that's polished, with nicely calibrated steering, minimum body roll when cornering, and a pleasantly firm brake pedal. Still, downshifts from the gearbox are occasionally clunky. Different drive modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual) give you the ability to tailor the car's performance to suit your preferences. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Though it's one of the least expensive models in the automaker's range, the CLA-class boasts a cabin that looks like it belongs in a Mercedes-Benz. The center stack is clean and modern, embellished with a trio of artful circular air vents. The front seats are pleasantly spacious, but there's limited headroom in the second row due to the car's sloping roofline. This sedan provides 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space. The V-8 makes 33 more horsepower than the old S560 from 2020, and it packs quite a punch. During our testing, the S580 rocketed to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. But that's not really the most impressive thing about the Maybach S-class. During our time with the car, we were impressed with the ride quality and the nearly silent cabin—we recorded an extremely low 64 decibels inside the car while cruising at 70 mph. The V-12's power rating is the same as the 2020 S650 model and does not benefit from a 48-volt hybrid system, but we haven't had a chance to test the new one yet. We'd suggest perusing the numerous personalization options, though, to really make the GLS600 your own. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The GLS600's twin-turbocharged V-8 makes 558 horsepower and can motivate the big luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes-Maybach. The engine is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system that gives a little extra shove right from the start. If that's not fast enough for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, which offers a 603-hp version of this powertrain and leaped to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds at our test track. During our initial test drive, we came away impressed with both its silky-smooth ride quality and its confident handling. An air suspension is standard, and it features a Maybach mode that all but erases bumps in the road. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The EPA has given the GLS600 fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. Those aren't particularly efficient estimates, but we're certain the big spenders who will be cross-shopping the GLS600 against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan won't be too concerned with fuel efficiency. When we get a chance to test the GLS600, we'll take it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route and update this story with the results. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo While the regular Benz-branded GLS-class SUV is a three-row affair, the Maybach GLS600 offers just two rows, both of which offer heat and massage functions. A three-across bench is also offered, but c'mon, the executive treatment is what this SUV is all about. Nappa leather covers the dash, door panels, and seats, while real wood trim with a handsome pinstripe adds a touch of class. A fragrance diffuser helps occupants create the sensory oasis they deserve after a hard day of being filthy rich. Cargo capacity isn't as generous here as it is in the regular GLS-class since the rear seats are fixed and don't fold to accommodate larger items. Thanks: AGR MOTORS 🤍 🤍 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic First Drive: Big Luxury in Every Sense It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got The 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 4Matic is a glittery thing. The grille and the front intakes, the trim down the middle of the hood and across its broad rump, the frame around the greenhouse, the exhaust pipes, and the wheels all sparkle as brightly as a diamond-encrusted Rolex in a Miami nightclub. Subtle it ain't. But, as Mercedes-Benz has learned, when it comes to Maybach, all that glitters is gold. It didn't start that way. Panicked by Volkswagen's purchase of Bentley and BMW's audacious acquisition of Rolls-Royce in the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz decided that it, too, needed an über-luxury limousine. The car it built on the W140 S-Class platform and launched to much fanfare in 2003 was as technically competent and lavishly finished as its rivals, but management decided the Mercedes-Benz name didn't have the gravitas needed to compete with the gilded British brands. Instead of being badged Mercedes-Benz Maybach, it became, simply, Maybach. Wilhelm Maybach was an engineer who worked with Gottlieb Daimler at the dawn of the automotive age and built his own luxury cars in the years leading up to World War II. It was a revered name among some prewar car buffs, but it meant nothing to anyone else. Before Maybach was quietly taken off life support in 2013, barely 3,000 examples had been sold worldwide. One well-placed industry source suggests Mercedes lost more than $350,000 on every car it built. In 2015, the company did what it should have done in the first place: It overtly linked the Maybach name with the three-pointed star. The largest and most lavishly equipped versions of the W222 S-Class were badged Mercedes-Maybach, the three-pointed star standing proud on the hood, and although the decision was made so late in the car's development there was no time to design and engineer any unique parts, it proved a runaway success. Mercedes has since sold more than 60,000 of these blinged-up S-Class models, many in China, where in 2019 demand was running at 700 cars a month. Now That You're Up to Speed… The new Mercedes-Maybach is based on the redesigned W223 S-Class launched late last year. Unlike the outgoing car, though, it does have unique sheetmetal, including a new hood that sits three-quarters of an inch higher than the S-Class hood and runs back from a large, more upright grille with bright vertical bars. It also features a redesigned greenhouse that includes a slightly higher roofline, fixed rear quarter windows, and a more formal C-pillar. And more chrome. Because that's what the customers like. The new Mercedes-Maybach rolls on the longest of the three platforms developed for the new S-Class. Codenamed Z223, it boasts 7 inches more between the axles than the long-wheelbase platform (codenamed V223) that underpins all S-Class models sold in the U.S., and 11.5 inches more than the standard-wheelbase S-Class that's common in Europe. All that extra length is dedicated to the rear passenger compartment, not the least because that's where many of the cars' owners in its three largest markets—China, Russia, and South Korea—spend most of their time, their chauffeurs handling the driving chores. The rear seats can be reclined from a 19-degree rake to 43 degrees, while the leg rests extend 2 inches further than before and will give you a calf massage should you so desire. Neck and shoulder heating is standard, and the seat belts are presented to you like those in the front seats of Mercedes coupes so you don't have to twist and find them. The standard infotainment screens on the backs of the front seats can be controlled via a smaller, removable touchscreen device mounted in the rear center console so you don't have to stretch forward, either. Among the few options to be offered to American buyers is a package that adds heated and cooled cupholders to the rear-seat center console, along with tables that fold out from it like those in a first-class airline seat. Other options include a fridge—complete with a pair of metal champagne flutes—that's accessed via a panel between the seats, and an electric opening and closing system for the rear doors actuated by switches mounted in the roof, just above the rear windows. Verdict The GLC Coupe offers buyers a slicker appearance, and underneath it all lies a carbon-copy of the fabulous squareback GLC300. Overview Getting there on time is as easy as leaving early, but arriving in style is where the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe blossoms. This is the more dramatic presentation of the square-back GLC SUV, reviewed separately, but the two SUVs share their guts and luxury appointments and are smitten with standard features such as heated seats, wireless smartphone charging, a great sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. The GLC Coupe uses a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an overboost function that punches out an additional 23 horsepower for short periods. All-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission are also standard. Interior commands are controlled by a massive infotainment display, which is only somewhat outdone by the large gauge cluster behind the GLC's thick steering wheel. The interior is finely stitched and adorned with enough LED ambient lighting to turn the cockpit into a Miami nightclub. While the GLC Coupe's style comes at the sacrifice of cargo space versus its more SUV-esque sibling, there's no arguing which one will make you look cooler behind the wheel. What's New for 2024? The GLC Coupe is all-new for 2024 with fresh duds and more horsepower from a 48-volt hybridized powertrain. Its suspension has been updated to increase the GLC Coupe's agility and even the standard panoramic sunroof has grown for the new model year. Pricing and Which One to Buy GLC300 4Matic $59,000 (est) The GLC300 is rich with standard amenities. Every GLC has LED headlights and taillights, a plush interior, and a wide array of driver-assistance features. For 2024, Mercedes-Benz has included the previously optional AMG Line package as standard equipment. That adds wireless smartphone charging, heated seats, and a Burmester 3D Surround system. Engine, Transmission, and Performance All 2023 GLC Coupes use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. A 48-volt hybrid system helps augment the powertrain, which is good for 255 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. While we haven't yet subjected the new GLC Coupe to our extensive testing routine, we estimate the SUV will get to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The EPA hasn’t released fuel economy estimates for the new GLC Coupe yet, but we expect to see similar numbers to the outgoing model and the Benz’s key rivals.
